Polenta is an inexpensive, tasty alternative to pasta or rice, and can be served in unlimited ways. Here is a basic recipe for making polenta that Nonna uses, as well as numerous serving ideas. Nonna ususually serves her polenta soft, topped with her famous Tomato Sauce in which she cooks both sausages and meatballs.

Homemade Chicken Broth
This recipe is for a very basic, tasty chicken broth that can be used in many different ways. Nonna Lina's grandchildren all grew up with her Pastina in Brodo, or as they call it, "Ball Soup", and she always seems to have a jar of homemade chicken broth in her refrigerator to prepare a quick, flavorful bowl of soup whenever it is needed.

Soup With Pork ~ Minestra di Maiale
This is a hearty soup that Nonna makes when her family wants a complete meal in a bowl. You could serve this soup on slices of grilled garlic bread for a pleasing presentation. A soup like this represents Italian country cooking at it's best!

Bread And Bean Soup
This soup recipe was handed down from Nonna's own Mother, and expresses the traditional style of Italian peasant cooking where everything is used in a kitchen, and a meal can revolve around a few pantry ingredients masterfully put together.

Saverio's Soup
This simple soup recipe is real Italian comfort food, and is often requested by Saverio, Nonna Lina's husband when he is in the mood for something to eat, but wants something light and nourishing. This soup can be put together in minutes, and requires only a few ingredients most people have on hand in their kitchens every day.
